Viber is one of the most popular free cross-platform instant messaging and VoIP apps. The recently new update for Android users brought an improvement to the Pinned Chats feature. It allows app users to access their favorite chats more easily by “pinning” them to the top of the screen. Now, bringing a chat to the top for quick access in the Viber app is now extremely easy. You just launch the app, move to all your Viber chats, and then long-tap the chat. After that, a list of various available options will display. You tap on “Pin to Top”, the chat will stand at the top of the list, giving you a quick access. If you want to unpin the chat, simply long-tap it again, and select “Unpin Chat.”
As many of you know, the Viber app was developed by a company from Japan called Rakuten acquired the company in 2014 in the total deal at $900 million. Viber was first released for Android in 2012, though the version for iOS was already rolled out in December 2010 to directly compete with Skype. The company has ever faced criticism from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) due to its lack of commitment to user security. Among other problems, the company’s security was stated to be insufficient, as the they did not use end-to-end encryption. Although the end-to-end encryption was added in 2016, the data is only encrypted if you use the latest version of the app.
